Mockup of my Paints N' Paws poster design

Paints n' paws

event branding

Paints N’ Paws is a passion project where I designed a brand look for a made-up event. I chose to do a painting charity event for animals. The combination of art and animals came into my mind because of my love for the two. The goal was to make something cohesive and eye-catching that could be used as an emailer, a feather banner, a poster, and web banners.

inspiration & Sketches

Since I wanted to include a logo in the poster, I started sketching out my ideas, and I digitized the final design in illustrator. I wanted to show the most common pets, which were cats and dogs, with something artistic in between them. I’ve settled on using a paint brush to be in between them since the event is called “Paints n’ Paws.”

Process

The design was created in both Illustrator and InDesign. Figuring out how I wanted to do the background was the hardest part. I did multiple paint strokes before I settled on doing blocks of paint on the edges of the poster. When I added the original colours of the background on illustrator, I found it too dark, so I played with the opacity to make it lighter and work better for my design.

attempt 4

I made a few animal silhouettes that I could use in the design. When I put all the silhouettes on the poster, it looked too crowded so, I settled for only using two of them: the red and indigo ones.

yellow silhouette of a dog

The ones that were used:

indigo silhouette of a dog
red silhouette of a cat

Once I had finished the layout on illustrator, I dropped the file in InDesign and added the interactive elements I needed.

feedback

The overall feedback to this was good, and they liked the idea of the charity event. They liked the logo and the other aspects of the design. Their only suggestion was to make the “n’” in the title a lighter red to make it pop in between the two dark reds.

final version

The final version consists of a poster, a save-the-date emailer, two web banners, and a feather banner.
